Overview

Dr. Ruth Walters is a Dermatopathologist and the director of the Dermatopathology laboratory at the Chapel Hill practice. Her clinical interests are melanocytic lesions and inflammatory dermatoses. She enjoys working closely with providers to incorporate each patient’s unique clinical history into the diagnostic process. After graduating with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Walters received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina, School of Medicine where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and received the Merit Award for her first and second years of training. She completed a residency in Pathology and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at University of North Carolina Hospitals where she served as chief resident and was selected to receive the Medical Alumni Endowment Fund Grant for research on melanoma. She then completed a Dermatopathology fellowship at New York University and stayed on to serve as an assistant professor of Dermatology and Pathology, and as Assistant Laboratory Director. She was honored to receive the full-time attending of the year award from the Department of Dermatology in 2011 for her role in teaching dermatology residents. She is fortunate to have the opportunity to continue teaching residents in the pathology department at the University of North Carolina.
