It starts when you do well in a couple of classes and somebody says, “You ought to be a doctor.” Early on it was suggested to me that medicine might be a good career choice. I got into my particular brand of medicine because the patients are challenging in terms of secondary problems, and the procedures are complex. That appealed to my desire to be all in and do something challenging. I enjoy working with my hands and want to effect change. I want to make sure people are getting better, and by doing procedures or interventional things like angioplasty and stenting, I have the opportunity to make a direct impact on patients’ lives. | Community involvement | As my kids went through school, I coached youth football and lacrosse, each for about seven years. I’ve always been involved with my children’s sports, and have continued to follow their sports careers through college. | Personal interests | I enjoy running and bicycling. When I was on staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital, I was involved with track cycling at the velodrome (now Valley Preferred Cycling Center), and did century rides. I’ve recently gotten back to biking and am mainly trying to stay in shape. My wife and I play tennis. And we spend a lot of time visiting our kids at different colleges and keeping up with them.
