Dr. Edwin A. Alvarez

Dr. Edwin Alexander Alvarez is a gynecologic oncologist at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. He focuses on the surgical and medical treatment of ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer and other cancers of the female reproductive system. He performs traditional, complicated and minimally invasive gynecologic surgeries. UCSF recruited Alvarez to serve as director of clinical trials for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. He is involved with NRG Oncology, a cooperative research group for cancer clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. Before coming to UCSF, he directed chemotherapy services for gynecologic cancers at the University of California, Davis. In addition to caring for patients, Alvarez has a strong commitment to teaching medical students, residents and fellows.
