She relocated from Charleston, South Carolina, where she was voted best colon and rectal surgeon in Mount Pleasant and/or Charleston nine of the past 10 years. Dr. Murphy has presented her research extensively in Colombia, Egypt, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Portugal and Argentina, as well as at the Harvard University School of Medicine. Her work has been published in textbooks and peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Murphy serves as a medical student and physician assistant educator at the Medical University of South Carolina, Presbyterian College and Charleston Southern University. She is considered an international expert in the treatment of fecal incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Murphy was honored as an InterStim Center of Excellence for the treatment of fecal incontinence, overactive bladder and urinary retention. She regularly gives symposiums and has trained hundreds of surgeons from all over the world in this technology. Dr. Murphy also has a special interest in the treatment of complex pilonidal disease.
