Overview
I find the kidney to be a fascinating organ. It does many things that are only now being understood. Some aspects of kidney science are still unexplored territory, and that was one reason I chose to become a nephrologist. Another reason is that as a nephrologist, I really get to know my patients well and see my dialysis and chronic kidney disease patients often. Nephrologists frequently have the opportunity to form therapeutic bonds with their patients that can last for years. The nephrologists I met when I was training always seemed to be very patient, caring and thoughtful physicians, and that is what I strive to be. My goal as a physician has always been to help take care of people affected by kidney disease, which is a growing problem in the United States that often strikes persons who are elderly and historically underserved. I came to HealthPartners after completing a fellowship in nephrology in Madison, Wisconsin, and practicing in Cincinnati, Ohio, for eight years. I was very excited to join HealthPartners and return to this region with my wife and our two daughters. My wife, who is a nurse, was born and raised in the Twin Cities and she is very happy to be back in her home town. During my free time, I enjoy playing guitar and writing songs. My family and I enjoy skiing, and we have taken ski trip vacations to Colorado and Wyoming. I also enjoy amateur astronomy and DIY projects around the house. I am a member of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN).
