
Overview
Dr. Neha Maithel is originally from California and obtained her undergraduate degree in biochemistry/cell biology at the University of California, San Diego. She continued on to earn her medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine followed by a residency and fellowship in hematology/oncology at State University of New York Downstate. Board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology, Dr. Maithel cares for people with genitourinary cancers, including bladder, kidney (renal cell), prostate, testicular (germ cell tumors), colorectal, anal, hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers. Her clinical interests include genitourinary and gastrointestinal oncology. She was drawn to the field of oncology because she finds it rewarding to help patients through life-altering diagnoses. Dr. Maithel is dedicated to supporting patients during their cancer journeys, from diagnosis to creating personalized treatment plans, which may include hormone therapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy or chemotherapy. She finds it incredibly rewarding to get to know her patients and their families, to understand their individual needs and preferences and to help address their medical, social and emotional concerns. Assistant professor in the Department of Medical Oncology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, Dr. Maithel sees patients at the Memorial Hermann Cancer Center at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center as part of an interdisciplinary team comprised of affiliated medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologist and other specialists providing compassionate, state-of-the-art cancer treatments, including access to ongoing clinical trials. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and traveling. She also enjoys daily yoga and meditation as well a relaxing round of golf.
