Joel Klena, MD, is chief of the Division of Hand and Microvascular Surgery for the Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute, as well as program director for the Geisinger Orthopaedic Surgery Residency. He assumed this role in 2017 after being the associate residency director for eight years.|Dr. Klena received a BS with honors from the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point, N.Y., graduating ninth in his class with dual degrees in marine engineering and marine transportation. As an expert in the management of complex elbow instability, Dr. Grandizio has been invited to give numerous national and international presentations on topics ranging from upper-extremity trauma to technology in healthcare. He serves as a peer-reviewer for multiple orthopaedic journals and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hand Surgery. As part of his commitment to education, he is heavily engaged in professional societies and is involved in multiple committees and leadership positions within the ASSH. In addition, Dr. Grandizio is one of the few upper-extremity surgeons who is a member of both the ASSH and ASES.|A former member of Bucknell University’s NCAA Division I baseball team, Dr. Grandizio has a long history in athletics and enjoys helping his patients return to doing what they love.
