
Overview
Timothy J. Yee, MD, is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of adult spinal deformity and complex spinal disorders. He is Co-Director of the Adult Spinal Deformity Program at Michigan Medicine and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Michigan Medical School.Dr. Yee graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Notre Dame, majoring in Biological Sciences and Spanish Literature. He then attended the University of Michigan Medical School, where he was awarded the Charles and Phyllis Lowe Merit Scholarship and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors, Academic Distinction, and Distinction in Research. He completed a seven-year neurosurgical residency at the University of Michigan, serving as chief resident in his final year and receiving the Academic Excellence Award and the Max Peet Resident Teaching Award. He then pursued a yearlong fellowship in complex spinal reconstruction and minimally invasive spinal surgery at the University of California-San Francisco before being recruited back to Ann Arbor as faculty.Dr. Yee has expertise in both minimally invasive and open techniques, and he has undergone extensive training in the use of robotics and computer-assisted navigation for spinal reconstruction. He treats patients with scoliosis, kyphosis, flat-back syndrome, and chin-on-chest deformity. He also has expertise in revision surgery and the treatment of degenerative disorders such as spinal stenosis, disc herniations, and spondylolisthesis.His research focuses on clinical and radiographic outcomes following spinal deformity surgery, functional outcomes after lumbar spondylolisthesis surgery, and development of protocols to optimize postoperative recovery. His extensive publications have been featured in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, Neurosurgery, and Neurosurgical Focus. He has been an invited speaker at national and international conferences, and he has been the recipient of the Donald O. Quest Award from the AANS, the Stewart B. Dunsker Award from the AANS, and the Kuntz Scholar Award from the AANS/CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves.
