Overview

Dr. Ravi Uppaluri, MD/PhD is a Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School and head and neck surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. His clinical interests include minimally invasive head and neck surgery including endoscopic approaches for skull base tumors and transoral laser removal of head and neck cancers, thyroid surgery and salivary gland/ parotid tumor management. To help manage these complex conditions, Dr. Uppaluri works in a close, multidisciplinary fashion with colleagues in neurosurgery, plastic surgery, medical and radiation oncology.   Dr. Uppaluri completed his medical school and obtained a doctorate in molecular genetics at the University of Minnesota. He subsequently trained in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He remained as a faculty there for 16 years prior to moving to Boston in 2016. Dr. Uppaluri is the chief of head and neck surgical oncology at the Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, and Chief of the Division of Otolaryngology within the Department of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  Dr. Uppaluri’s research interests focus on basic and translational approaches to improving outcomes for patients with head and neck cancers. He leads an NIH funded laboratory focused on immunotherapy (NIH/NIDCR R01 “Immunotherapeutic responses to neoantigens in head and neck cancer” and NIH/NCI/NIDCR U01 “Defining immunotherapy resistance mechanisms in head and neck cancer”). He also has been the leader of clinical trials integrating novel therapeutics into the surgical management of head and neck cancers (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02296684).
