I was born and raised on Long Island, New York. Since then, my family and I have relocated to the Triangle area. In college, I was a varsity athlete and underwent four orthopaedic surgeries during my career. This allowed me to have the ability to understand how the patient is feeling during treatment and recovery. These experiences inspired me to become a physician assistant in orthopaedic surgery. My goal is to provide patients with the care they need to return to the things they love.

As an infertility patient myself, this field is near and dear to me. To be able to walk alongside my patients and provide support during their journey to becoming parents, and any routes it may take to get there, is something that brings me great joy. I strive to consider all aspects of the patient when providing their care and pay attention to even the smallest details, which can often make the biggest difference.

Most of the patients I see come in with hip and knee arthritis. We start with X-rays and other evaluations, then work to treat the situation with something conservative all the way to surgical. It’s all tailored specifically for each patient, and it depends on what type of treatment they have had in the past, how debilitated they are and how quickly we need to get them back on their feet. My approach is conservative. We’ll try injections and medicines first. If they don’t work, then surgery is an option. Duke is a great choice for patients, because we take the time to evaluate each one. We don’t just look at an X-ray and say you need surgery right away. We sit and talk with the patient about their concerns. Growing up, I was a gymnast. I always wanted to do something in sports medicine, which led me into orthopedics. Seeing the patient happy is the favorite part of my job, seeing people back up on their feet and walking around the neighborhood.

I chose specializing in Orthopaedic foot and ankle care because I find immense satisfaction in helping patients overcome challenges related to these critical areas of the body and improve their quality of life.

I was born and raised in Florida, but fell in love with North Carolina when I attended Davidson College. I went to Duke for graduate school and put down roots in Durham. As an orthopaedic physician assistant, I take care of musculoskeletal concerns, ranging from the fingers to the toes. This can be joint pain, muscle aches, sports injuries, falls, and much more. I work closely with my patients to create care plans that are respectful of their obligations at home, work, and school. Members of my family have undergone orthopaedic surgery, so I understand the challenges on the road to recovery. I have seen the life-changing magic of orthopaedics. We help patients regain active, fulfilling lives. That’s why I love being an orthopaedic physician assistant. Outside of work, I am an avid coffee drinker and Disney films enthusiast. I am often found trying to convince my wife we need to visit Disney World as often as possible.

Most patients I see have sustained an acute musculoskeletal injury or are dealing with long-term orthopaedic issues. I see all types of sports-related injuries, focusing mostly on shoulders and knees. It’s important that I learn the patient’s goals and understand their expectation for recovering from the injury. This can vary greatly if the patient is a recreational athlete, a child on a sports team or a collegiate athlete. As a recreational athlete myself, I have dealt with injuries requiring orthopaedic surgery. I understand both the patient and provider side. My goal is to get patients back to enjoying their activities in a timely manner. There are many multi-disciplinary resources at the Duke Sports Science Institute to help accommodate this, including physical therapists that work closely with me in clinic, running and aquatic therapists, sports cardiologists and neurologists, surgeons specializing in all areas of orthopaedics, and athletic trainers.
