I ask my patients if they're ready, and then I go as far as I can with them and give them the resources they need. | Why I entered medicine | I was a professional musician – a guitarist. But I soon discovered I was not so musical! I was only able to go so far. Medicine is a DeHoff family tradition. There are medical diplomas in my family going back to the Civil War: my father, my grandfather and my great-great-grandfather - this goes way back! It's a very important role to play in people's lives. It's more mainstream and more stable than my music career.
