Dr. Adamo is a physician-scientist and the director for Cardiac Immunology in the Johns Hopkins University Division of Cardiology. Born and raised in the south of Italy, after completing medical school, Dr. Adamo moved to the U.S. to pursue a Ph.D. in Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Harvard Medical School. He then went to Washington University School of Medicine where he completed post-graduate training in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and advanced heart failure/cardiac transplant. He finally returned to basic science to complete post-doctoral training in cardiac immunology. Dr. Adamo is involved in both basic research and clinical research. His basic research focuses on the relationship between the immune system and the heart, in health and disease. His clinical research has focused on heart failure with normalized ejection fraction and patient selection for mechanical circulatory support. A father of 5, Dr. Adamo has a passion for entrepreneurship and has been involved with the launch of 3 start-up companies. He holds a weekly clinic and attends on the inpatient heart failure service within the Hopkins system.
