He received his medical degree from Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania; and his Ph.D in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics from Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Chelu completed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center; a postdoctoral fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Baylor College of Medicine; and Clinical Fellowships in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics and Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Texas Heart Institute.Dr. Chelu holds certifications in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine; Adult Echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography; and Nuclear Cardiology from the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology.He is a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society and a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, European Society of Cardiology, and the European Heart Rhythm Association.
