Dr. Michael M. Rezaian

Dr. Ziglar is a graduate of Stony Brook University where she was a scholar member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She earned her medical degree at the State University of New York, Downstate, and completed her internal medicine residency at North Shore University Hospital, New York. She completed her fellowship training for rheumatology at New York University’s Hospital for Joint Diseases, where she was recognized by medical residents with the Fellow of the Year Award for distinguished teaching.Following fellowship, Dr. Ziglar began private practice while she maintained teaching faculty appointments as Asst. Clinical Professor of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York and later at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in New Jersey.Although Dr. Ziglar treats all types of rheumatic conditions, she has a special interest in osteoporosis and has conducted lab research focused on promoting the development of bone and cartilage cells. Her research was recognized in the form of awards and scholarships through the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes for Health, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She has contributed to the Journal of Biological Chemistry and her research was presented in multiple national abstract meetings. Dr. Ziglar finds involvement in healthcare advocacy meaningful. While a member of the American College of Rheumatology’s Government Affairs Committee, she led the 2019-2022 revisions of the College’s Health Policy Statement. Dr. Thomas is a native of Ellicott City, MD, and attended the University of Maryland where she earned her B.S. with majors in Neurobiology and Physiology. Afterwards she graduated from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and then completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Rheumatology Fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.Dr. Thomas has received multiple scholarships and awards throughout her academic and medical careers, was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society in November 2008, and was awarded the William P. Argy Teaching Resident Award in 2011. Dr. Thomas has been named a “Top Doctor” by Washingtonian Magazine for multiple consecutive years, as well as by Arlington Magazine and Northern Virginia Magazine. She has co-authored several articles and abstracts, presented research on Systemic Sclerosis at the American College of Rheumatology national meeting in Chicago in November 2011, and is the first author of a manuscript on tuberculous arthritis that has recently been accepted for publication.Dr. Thomas is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and is a member of the American College of Rheumatology. Her areas of interest include systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
