Dr. Lee F. Starker
Overview
Lee Starker, MD, PhD, is a medical director of surgical oncology for the eastern region with a special interest in thyroid and parathyroid tumors and cancers, endocrine disorders, melanoma, hormones and metabolism, and cancer genetics. He is highly trained in pancreatic and complex hepatobiliary surgery. He also specializes in NanoKnife® to treat unresectable pancreatic and liver cancers as well as hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), which is a highly concentrated, heated chemotherapy treatment delivered directly to the abdomen during surgery for peritoneal malignancies.After completing his surgical residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut and surgical oncology fellowship training at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, Dr. Starker returned to his New Jersey roots. Prior to that, he earned a PhD in epigenetics and genetics of parathyroid tumors from Uppsala University in Sweden, where he was chief resident and fellow. While studying there, he received the Gold Humanism Award, which recognizes excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service. He has also been named an NJ Top Doctor annually by NJ Monthly Magazine.Dr. Starker is widely published in various medical journals, including the World Journal of Oncology and International Journal of Endocrinology. He is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Starker and his partners provide patients with the latest surgical innovations and clinical research options. Prior to joining Atlantic Surgical Oncology, Dr. Harrison served as director of surgical oncology at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood where he developed expertise in robotic surgery, performing more than 200 complex robotic surgical procedures. He also was director of the Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgical Fellowship. Previously, Dr. Harrison was associate professor of surgery and chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology at University Hospital in Newark for 12 years. In addition to his clinical practice, he was involved in research and taught medical residents and students. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
