Overview
Dr. Richard W. Barth is an orthopaedic surgeon at Sibley Memorial Hospital. He is also an associate clinical professor of orthopaedics at George Washington University. He practices out of Washington Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at Sibley Memorial Hospital and in Chevy Chase, MD. Dr. Barth’s expertise is in hand, wrist, elbow and upper extremity surgery, as well as upper extremity sports injuries. Dr. Barth earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and his fellowship in hand surgery at the Indiana Hand Center. Dr. Barth is an accomplished surgeon and leader in orthopaedic surgery, serving as the former president, vice president and secretary/treasurer of the Washington Orthopaedic Society. He has also served on the Board of Councilors for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and was named a Top MD by Consumers Checkbook. Dr. Barth was also a hand and wrist consultant for the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards. As a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery Carpal Tunnel Syndrome committee, Dr. Barth contributed to a publication focusing on evidence-based guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. He also completed a presentation on Dupuytren’s disease and needle aponeurotomy.
