
Overview
Dr. Anum Minhas attended medical school at Duke University and trained in internal medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. During her Cardiology fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she served as the Chief Cardiology fellow and was honored to receive the Marie-Josee and Henry R. Kravis Endowed Fellowship and the Lou and Nancy Grasmick Endowed Research Fellowship (2021-2022). She was also awarded the Dlabal Clinical Research award for originality and creativity in research. During her fellowship, she completed additional training and obtained a Master of Health Science with focus in cardiovascular epidemiology as an NIH T32 postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She also completed additional clinical training during fellowship in Advanced Echocardiography, and designed and completed an inaugural fellowship in Cardio-Obstetrics. Dr. Minhas joined the Johns Hopkins Cardiology faculty with a clinical focus in women's cardiovascular health, specifically Cardio-Obstetrics, or cardiac disease around pregnancy. She also attends in the coronary critical care unit and the echocardiography laboratory. She was selected as a recipient of an NIH-sponsored KL2 award through the Clinical Research Scholars Program. Her current research focuses on preventing and managing cardiovascular disease associated with pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia. She is the recipient of several grants and has coauthored multiple publications and book chapters in women's cardiovascular health. She hopes to use her research to raise awareness of and provide insights into mechanisms of pregnancy-associated cardiac disease and promote health equity in maternal health. Dr. Hugh Calkins is the Catherine Ellen Poindexter Professor of Cardiology and Director of the Electrophysiology Laboratory and Arrhythmia Service at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is an internationally recognized expert on catheter ablation, atrial fibrillation, syncope, arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD) and arrhythmia management. Dr. Calkins attended Williams College and Harvard Medical School before training in medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He received his cardiology training at Johns Hopkins. His first faculty position was at the University of Michigan, where he directed the Pacemaker Service, and he returned to Johns Hopkins as director of the Arrhythmia Service in 1992. Dr. Calkins is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology and is on the editorial board of many other cardiology journals. He is a former member of the American Board of Internal Medicine Electrophysiology Boards Test Writing Committee. Dr. Calkins is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the Heart Rhythm Society. He led a 44-member international task force whose 2012 Expert Consensus Statement gave recommendations for treatment and research of atrial fibrillation. Dr Calkins is a past president of the Heart Rhythm Society and was elected to be a member of the Miler Coulsen Academy of Clinical Excellence in 2014. Dr. Calkins has published more than 500 articles and book chapters on a large variety of cardiac arrhythmias. His research has focused predominantly on catheter ablation, atrial fibrillation, syncope, and arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia. Dr. Calkins has also written extensively on most aspects of heart rhythm disorders and their treatment. Dr. Halperin is currently a Professor of Medicine, Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. He is the co-director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Center of Excellence. He serves on the editorial board of the journal Resuscitation, and is a past chair of the national American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Subcommittee and a past member of the Emergency Cardiac Care Committee. Ten of his students have received young investigator awards from the American Heart Association and Heart Rhythm Society, and he has ongoing support from the National Institutes of Heath for his research programs.
