
Overview
Anthony Gielow, DO, FACS, FACOS, is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in general surgery and surgical critical care and a member of Orlando Health Medical Group Surgery. He is also board-certified in critical care. His areas of practice include all aspects of elective and emergent general surgical care with an additional focus on complex hernia surgery and minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopy and robotic surgery. He also cares for burn and trauma patients. Surgery at Orlando Health Dr. Gielow is a skilled surgeon, accomplished in both minimally invasive and traditional surgical procedures. His expertise ensures patients receive quality care throughout all stages of the surgical process, from preoperative testing to surgery and on to postoperative care. For complex hernia conditions, he uses one of two surgical procedures - open repair surgery, which requires an incision to access the hernia, or minimally invasive laparoscopy surgery. Minimally invasive surgery provides increased precision, smaller incisions, reduced pain and trauma to the body, and shorter hospital stays. Dr. Gielow’s Training Dr. Gielow earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine from Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. He then completed his general surgical residency training at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and fellowship in surgical critical care at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center. About Dr. Gielow Dr. Gielow is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons (ACS) for which he is a certified course instructor for two ACS-sponsored courses: Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma. Other professional affiliations include the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Osteopathic Association, and Florida Osteopathic Medical Association. At Orlando Health Dr. Gielow serves as Associate Program Director of General Surgery Residency Program; Associate Burn Director; and Co-Director of the Complex Hernia Center. As a member of the academic faculty at Orlando Regional Medical Center, he is directly involved with the education of surgical residents and serves on a number of committees. Additionally, Dr. Gielow is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Central Florida and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
