Dr. David Hennessy

David Hennessy, MD, is a UW Health orthopedic surgeon. He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.Dr. Hennessy is dual fellowship trained and specializes in total joint replacement of the hip and knees and the surgical management of musculoskeletal tumors.His care of musculoskeletal tumors includes both benign and malignant tumors, particularly the management of extremity and pelvic sarcomas. He cares for both adult and pediatric patients who have bone or soft tissue tumors through a multi-disciplinary approach working with a team of medical oncologists and radiation oncologists.He predominantly performs anterior-approach total hip replacements, but tailors his approach based on each patient’s needs .In addition to total hip and knee replacements he performs robotic-assisted partial knee replacements, complex joint reconstructions and revision hip and knee replacements. His surgical technique focuses on minimally invasive approaches that limit tissue injury and enhance the speed of recovery. This surgical philosophy is complimented by the excellent team of physical therapists and supportive staff which help patients return to maximum function as soon as possible.In his free time, Dr. Hennessy enjoys traveling with his family and spending time outdoors. They especially enjoy skiing, cycling and spending time on the lakes.It’s rewarding to see patients walk back into the clinic without pain after joint surgery or to help people through tough times after a cancer diagnosis.
