Overview
I care for people living with seizures and epilepsy, including those with drug-resistant epilepsy. My focus is on finding the most effective and safest treatment strategy for each person; whether that’s medication, evaluation for epilepsy surgery, or neuromodulation therapies. I also work to identify related challenges like anxiety, depression, sleep, and/or cognitive issues, which can greatly affect quality of life. I chose this field because every seizure tells a story. No two journeys are the same and I believe that medical care should reflect that. I take the time to listen, understand, and partner with patients and their families to create a plan that supports their goals. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, playing the piano, and spending time with my family.

Duke Cancer Center
I am a neurologist and cancer doctor who treats brain tumors and researches ways to improve quality of life for brain tumor patients. As a college student, I thought I was going to be a scientist, but fell in love with studying the brain and its inner workings. I enjoy being at Duke, because I work with some of the top clinicians and researchers in the field, and a generous and warm-hearted staff that helps patients and their loved ones through treatment. It is hard to pick one thing I enjoy about my job. I enjoy seeing patients and their loved ones, being at the cutting edge of research and teaching the next generation of doctors. I think it is the chance to do so many different things that makes my job special. Outside of work, I enjoy shopping at farmer’s markets, cooking and exercising. I also collect Swatch watches - I have over 400!. Dr. Peters is highly rated in 23 conditions, according to our data. Private Diagnostic Clinic PLLC
I am currently the chief of the division of Epilepsy, Sleep, and Clinical Neurophysiology. I see epilepsy patients and patients with sleep disorders. The epilepsy patients that I see often have a hard time controlling their seizures or have other epilepsy-related problems. At Duke, we have many options, including clinical trials, advanced medications, and surgical options, that we can offer patients to get them to a better quality of life with fewer or no seizures. In sleep disorders, I see many patients with sleep apnea and have a passion for treating individuals with narcolepsy. My philosophy is that I want patients to be aware of all the different treatment options that they have available this them. Together, we come up with what I, the patient, and the family think is the best approach for the individual. This way, we can individualize the treatment for each person. It is very gratifying for me to see patients doing so much better with the appropriate medications and pursuing the dreams they have and doing the things they really want to do. Dr. Husain is highly rated in 23 conditions, according to our data. His top areas of expertise are Seizures, Drowsiness, Epilepsy, Microvascular Decompression, and Spinal Fusion.
