Overview

Dr. Ranjit Suri MD, FACC, FHRS is Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York, NY. He received his medical degree from Armed Forces Medical College and his MD degree from the premier Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in India. Following relocation to the United States, he completed fellowships in pulmonary, critical care, and cardiovascular medicine at the University of Connecticut (UCONN) School of Medicine; he proceeded to serve on the UCONN faculty with dual appointments in Cardiology and Critical Care and was Chief of Cardiology at the affiliated Veterans Administration Hospital. Following this, Dr. Suri trained in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he served on the arrhythmia service prior to moving to New York. In New York, Dr. Suri developed an arrhythmia service at New York Hospital Queens and was Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory and Heart Rhythm Center from 2001 - 2008. As a senior member of the Lenox Hill Cardiovascular Department, he headed the hospital's arrhythmia service from 2008 to 2013, before establishing Heart Rhythm Associates. This successful EP group is based in Manhattan with outreach programs in the New York metro area. In addition to his role as President of Heart Rhythm Associates, Dr Suri has held a number of EP directorships in NYC, over the years.

Dr. Suri is ABIM certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. He is also certified by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) in cardiac device therapy. His clinical interests and publications are in the area of the management of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and the prevention of sudden death, arrhythmic stroke and recurrent syncope. He was the principal investigator for the national SDD-ICD trial that randomized 600 defibrillator patients to same day versus next day discharge post implantation. His current research interests include cardiac contractility modulation devices in congestive heart failure, molecular imaging for risk stratification of sudden death and the prevention of atrial fibrillation. To improve quality in cardiac care, Dr. Suri is presently developing an electronic health management system that enables remote monitoring of cardiac implantable electronic devices and other physiologic signals from ambulatory patients. He has applied his expertise in remote monitoring and cybersecurity to collaborate with entrepreneurs in applying cognitive behavioral therapy to population based strategies in promoting public health. Dr. Suri is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. He has been recognized by New York Magazine, Castle Connolly and Healthgrades.
