Dr. Gilman has been involved with the Plastic Surgery Section at the University of Michigan for most of the time since his residency here. He has returned many times as a guest lecturer and has been the featured speaker for both the Reed O Dingman and the William C Grabb endowed lectureships. He has also been the Keynote Speaker at the bi-annual Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgeons on Mackinac Island.Robert H. Gilman, MD, DMD completed his residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Michigan in 1982. He has been in private practice in Wellesley, Massachusetts for 31 years and has taught in the Harvard Combined Residency Training Program in Plastic Surgery for the last 15 years. He was a Clinical Instructor in Plastic Surgery at the Harvard Medical School. He earned his MD at Boston University School of Medicine and earned his Dental degree, DMD, at Boston University School of Dentistry. He trained in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in the Combined ENT Residency Program at Boston University and Tufts University. He is diplomat of both the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.Dr. Gilman has led a Pediatric Reconstructive team to Colombia, South America for the last 18 years and has taken 17 Michigan residents with him over the years where he mentors them as the team provides surgical correction of deformities of the face, such as cleft lip and palate, the body, such as burn scar contractures and the Hand, such as congenital and acquired deformities. Through the University of Michigan President’s initiative and with the help of grateful donors, he has established the Robert H. Gilman, MD Fund for International Travel, which provides financial assistance to plastic surgery residents enabling them to have the experience of international medical mission work. Dr. Gilman is a member of numerous national and state plastic surgery societies as well as a member of the board of trustees at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. Clinical Specialization: In both his private practice and in his clinical teaching at Harvard, Dr. Gilman has focused on all aspects of cosmetic surgery. In particular he has an interest in rhinoplasty and in facial rejuvenation procedures both non-invasive and invasive. He also focuses on post pregnancy abdominal and breast surgery, aesthetic breast enlargement, body sculpturing by liposuction and fat transfer. He is joining the Michigan Plastic Surgery faculty to continue to provide the highest quality of Plastic Surgical care for patients and continue the tradition of excellence in Plastic Surgery training for residents.

During this time, she also performed skull base operations at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and trained in pediatric otolaryngology at the Children’s Hospital of New York. Dr. Stucken completed advanced fellowship training in otology and neurotology at the Michigan Ear Institute. Dr. Stucken has received awards for excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. She has published numerous scholarly articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals and otolaryngology texts. She is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and the American Neurotology Society and serves on national committees for these organizations. Dr. Stucken is also involved in humanitarian outreach work and has traveled to Cambodia to perform ear surgery on underserved patients. She is proficient in Spanish and French.Dr. Stucken is the director of the Cochlear Implant Center at the University of Michigan. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Stucken is invested in the advancement of knowledge and is an NIH-funded researcher in hearing sciences. She is a clinical faculty member at the Kresge Hearing Research Institute and has led international research collaboration. Dr. Stucken also runs the Temporal Bone Dissection Lab at the University of Michigan and directs the Temporal Bone Dissection Course.Dr. Stucken’s approach to otolaryngology and otology-neurotology combines a strong background of clinical and academic expertise with a dedicated personal approach to patient care. Through this personal approach, she works to help patients understand their disease process and treatment options. The ear represents one of the most complex and intricate organs in the human body; just as diseases of the ear and skull base can be debilitating to a person’s interactions with the everyday world, the treatment for these diseases can restore a patient’s quality of life. Dr. Stucken works diligently toward providing specialized care to every patient on an individual basis to achieve the best possible outcomes.
