He received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Shao then completed a general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago, including two years of translational research in cancer gene therapy. He received the University of Chicago Surgical Society Travel Award, participating in surgeries in Santiago, Chile and the Academic Achievement Award for the highest in-service examination score among graduating chief residents. Dr. Shao also received the AOA teaching award given by graduating fourth-year medical students. He has extensive research experience in both academia and industry.
