Michael Shao, MD, RPVI is a board-certified vascular surgeon and Section Chief of Vascular Surgery at Swedish Hospital in Chicago. His active clinical practice of vascular surgery spans open and endovascular surgery for carotid stenosis (carotid endarterectomy and TCAR), aortic aneurysm, PAD, dialysis access, and venous insufficiency including RF ablation, sclerotherapy, ClariVein, Varithena, and VenaSeal. He is a recognized expert on venous treatment with recent publications and several print media and radio interviews on the topic. He received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Shao then completed a general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago, including two years of translational research in cancer gene therapy. He received the University of Chicago Surgical Society Travel Award, participating in surgeries in Santiago, Chile and the Academic Achievement Award for the highest in-service examination score among graduating chief residents. Dr. Shao also received the AOA teaching award given by graduating fourth-year medical students. He has extensive research experience in both academia and industry.
