Overview
Dr. Chap earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed a general surgery residency and a surgical critical care fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Chap is board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Chap enjoys the technical and intellectual challenge of his work as a surgeon. He integrates evidence-based medicine with each patient’s wishes for the best plan of care. A specialist in trauma, critical care and acute care surgery, he is experienced in laparoscopy, biliary, breast, skin, hernia, GI/anorectal and endocrine surgery. Dr. Chap believes that the future of critical care medicine will include increasingly sophisticated monitoring of critically ill patients, with treatment plans that factor in individual patient characteristics. Originally from Chevy Chase, Maryland, Dr. Chap considers Hampton Roads to be his family’s home, especially after living out of state for five years. He has three sons, including twins, and they enjoy our area’s abundance of family activities. In addition to family time, Dr. Chap’s favorite hobbies include playing basketball and going to the beach.
