
Overview
Dr. Rosenthal is the Will and Cava Ross Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and Chief of the Rheumatology Division. She the medical director of the Zablocki VA Translational Research Center, a key component of the Clinical Translational Science Institute and recently became the Associate Chief of Staff for Research at the VA Medical Center. She maintains an active clinical practice, has been elected a fellow in the American College of Physicians, and is the winner of several teaching awards.Dr. Rosenthal received her MD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Rochester. She received her rheumatology training at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Her principal research interests revolve around pathogenic mechanisms of a common form of arthritis known as calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease. This work has been funded by the Veteran’s Administration Research Service and the National Institutes of Health since 1991. Other research interests include osteoarthritis and gout as well as musculoskeletal complications of diabetes. She is the author of over 80 original publications, numerous chapters and invited reviews, and has spoken at many national and international meetings. She is an enthusiastic study section member for NIH and the VA and is an active mentor for the US Bone and Joint Decade Young Investigators Initiative.

Mary Ellen Csuka, MD, FACP, Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology, graduated from the New York Medical College in 1977 and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at The Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn. In 1980, Dr. Csuka joined MCW as a general internist. In 1986, she became board-certified in rheumatology and joined the Division of Rheumatology. Dr. Csuka established the Froedtert MCW Scleroderma clinic, which is recognized by the Scleroderma Foundation as a Research and Treatment Center since 2013.She has a long-standing interest and commitment to the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Her medical expertise and training in rheumatology and geriatrics allow her to serve as a clinical resource for her colleagues at MCW and in the community. She has been a presenter at the Wisconsin Update in Geriatric Medicine since its inception.
