Dr. Daniel Sarmiento is our newest physician at ATL Colorectal Surgery and is a board-certified colorectal surgeon who practices all aspects of colon and rectal surgery. He was born in Bogota, Colombia and attended Universidad del Rosario, one of the oldest and most prestigious medical schools in Colombia. He then started a rigorous general surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania for 2 years and completed his training at Christiana Care Health System in Delaware. Dr. Sarmiento completed his Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship with the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown Pennsylvania in 2017. He was then an attending surgeon at Somerset Hospital, Branch of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he served as the chair of the surgery department for many years.In 2022, he moved to Georgia and worked with the Northeast Georgia Health System primarily based in Braselton, and served as a core faculty member for the general surgery residency program. He was nominated as a Top Doctor by Georgia Trend Magazine in 2023.Dr. Sarmiento is a current Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, where he actively serves on different committees. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgical approaches, specifically robotic transabdominal surgery and robotic transanal minimally invasive surgery (R-TAMIS), as well as laparoscopy. He practices all aspects of colorectal surgery including treating malignant diseases of the colon, rectum and anus, as well as benign conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, constipation, and anorectal diseases including incontinence, hemorrhoids, fissures, and anal fistulae. He is also a firm believer in the importance of preventive medicine and performs colonoscopy and advanced polyp retrieval. Dr. Sarmiento is now accepting new patients at ATL Colorectal, P.C. on the Piedmont Atlanta Campus.
His clinical expertise encompasses Cholecystitis, Ogilvie Syndrome, Familial Colorectal Cancer, Endoscopy, and Colostomy.
Dr. Garzon is board certified in American Board Of Colon And Rectal Surgery and American Board Of Surgery. He is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 3 peer reviewed articles. Dr. Garzon is currently accepting new patients.
