
Overview
Irene E. Rossmer, MD, FACS, is a surgical oncologist with Atlantic Medical Group. She is a specialist in the management of complex and advanced malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract, including gastric, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, small bowel, colon, and rectal cancers as well as skin cancers, including melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and basal cell carcinoma. Dr. Rossmer has a special interest in women’s health and the multidisciplinary treatment of breast cancer. She is also a skilled minimally invasive and robotic surgeon, and she brings the highest level of technical skill and clinical expertise to her patients and their families.Certified by the American Board of Surgery in both general surgery and complex general surgical oncology, Dr. Rossmer has received multiple awards and honors for her clinical work and research. She was selected by her peers and faculty to serve in her final year of training as the chief resident, and she was awarded the highly coveted Blakemore Award for an outstanding body of research performed during residency. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and her research has been presented at multiple regional and national meetings. Dr. Rossmer is currently actively involved in research to improve the quality of care for cancer patients, and she has recently received a grant from Amazon Health to continue her ongoing work related to equity in delivery of cancer care.Dr. Rossmer received her medical degree from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, she completed her residency training at New York Presbyterian-Columbia University in 2015, and went on to pursue a highly competitive fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. After spending her first few years in practice on Long Island, Dr. Rossmer joined Atlantic Health in 2020, bringing her professional expertise and excellence to serve our patient community. Dr. Rossmer is professionally active and is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, as well as she is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and a Fellow of the Society of Surgical Oncology.Dr. Rossmer is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
