
Overview
John M. Brown III, MD, is a fellowship-trained cardiothoracic surgeon with Atlantic Medical Group (AMG) as well as the chief of cardiothoracic surgery at Morristown Medical Center. He is also co-director of the Structural Heart Group – one of the busiest in the country. Board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and in surgery by the American Board of Surgery, his professional expertise includes all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass; off-pump bypass; valve repair and replacement; and aortic reconstruction; as well as structural heart disease.Dr. Brown specializes in minimally invasive valve surgery and has been active in the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques. He has been a principal investigator in the studies leading to the acceptance of TAVR and MitraClip.Dr. Brown earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, now called Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences, in New York City. He remained at Cornell to complete his general surgery residency as well as a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery where he served as instructor in his final two years.Dr. Brown has been involved in a number of clinical research projects, either as principal or co-investigator. Many of these studies are continuing to enroll and follow up.Dr. Brown is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American College of Cardiology. His extensive professional associations include membership in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and both the New Jersey and New York Societies of Thoracic Surgery. He is the recipient of numerous awards and has been chosen consecutively for more than two decades as one of New Jersey’s Top Doctors by New Jersey Monthly magazine. Dr. Brown is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
