Dr. Joseph A. Ibrahim

Dr. Joseph Ibrahim is the director of surgery with Orlando Health Medical Group Surgery and a surgeon with the Orlando Health Complex Hernia Center. He is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, and his expertise includes: Minimally invasive laparoscopy surgery Trauma and emergency surgery Surgical critical care Hernia repairs Thyroid surgery Appendectomy Gallbladder removal Burn surgery Catheter placement Splenectomy Dr. Ibrahim joined Orlando Health in 2012 as associate program director of the general surgery residency program after working at East Tennessee University as an assistant professor in trauma, critical care and acute care surgery and as a general surgeon in private practice. His passion for laudable patient care was recognized in 2013 when he received the Orlando Health ORMC Physician Exemplar Award. Dr. Ibrahim’s Training Dr. Ibrahim earned his medical degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, where he was awarded the Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Award. He completed a general surgery residency at East Tennessee State University and received the award for outstanding surgical resident. He then completed a surgical critical care fellowship at Orlando Health. About Dr. Ibrahim Dr. Ibrahim is double board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and Southeastern Surgical Congress. Dr. Ibrahim teaches at Florida State University. He is a certified course director for the Fundamental Critical Care Support course and regularly facilitates lectures and skill stations for the Advanced Trauma Life Support course. His most recent research includes articles, abstracts and publications on ultrasound simulation training for residents, Vitamin D use in the critically ill patient population and new ICU protocols to decrease catheter-associated urinary tract infection rates.
