Dr. Mihail G. Chelu is a Cardiologist and Associate Professor of Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine. He is also Director of Electrophysiology at Baylor Heart Clinic; Director of Clinical Electrophysiology Research at BCM; Medical Director of BCM’s Inherited Arrhythmia and Cardiomyopathy Clinic; and Associate Program Director of BCM’s Electrophysiology Fellowship.Dr. Chelu’s clinical interests include inherited cardiac arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies; ablation of complex atrial flutters and fibrillation; ablation of ventricular arrhythmias; and implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy devices.Dr. Chelu’s extensive research interests include: molecular mechanisms and genetics of cardiac arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies; MRI protocols to image left atrial scar and characterize biophysics of ablation; integration of sensors and mobile platforms to monitor and identify disease signatures and determine impact on quality of life; and cybersecurity of cardiac electrophysiology devices.Dr. Chelu earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics and Theoretical Physics from abes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He received his medical degree from Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania; and his Ph.D in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics from Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Chelu completed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center; a postdoctoral fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Baylor College of Medicine; and Clinical Fellowships in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics and Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Texas Heart Institute.Dr. Chelu holds certifications in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine; Adult Echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography; and Nuclear Cardiology from the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology.He is a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society and a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, European Society of Cardiology, and the European Heart Rhythm Association.
