Dr. Petros Carvounis earned his medical degree from Oxford University in Oxford, England, followed by an internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, New York, He completed his residency in ophthalmology at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Carvounis, who is board certified in ophthalmology and surgery, has been in practice since 2000. He treats patients of all ages and speaks Spanish, French and Greek. He performs repair surgery for macula hole and retinal detachment without face-down positioning. His practice style combines the most current treatments and surgical options with an old-fashioned physician-patient relationship. His practice offers a high level of surgical expertise utilizing current vitrectomy techniques that have published results, as well as exceptional patient service and extended hours for ease of scheduling. Dr. Carvounis, who lives in the Memorial area, is married and has one daughter. Outside of his practice, he enjoys tennis, horseback riding, windsurfing, opera, travel and chess.
