Dr. Ron Karni earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed his residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, Dr. Karni’s clinical practice focuses on management of HPV-associated oropharynx (throat) cancer, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, diagnostic ultrasonography and fine-needle aspiration of head and neck masses, robotic surgery for throat cancer, larynx and oral cavity cancer, and salivary gland tumors. Dr. Karni serves as Division Chief of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and is a regionally-recognized leader for transoral robotic minimally-invasive surgery, a treatment which decreases the side effects of treatment for HPV-associated throat cancer. Dr. Karni performs over one hundred thyroid and parathyroid surgical procedures each year and leads a multidisciplinary ultrasound-guided aspiration biopsy clinic for thyroid nodules. Dr. Karni has authored publications on robotic head and neck surgery, workup of the occult head and neck cancer, and integrating evidenced-based methods in otolaryngology.
