Overview

Jean M. Tersak, MD, provides care for pediatric oncology patients and long term survivors of childhood cancer at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr. Tersak is institutional principal investigator for the UPMC Children’s Oncology Group and director of clinical oncology research within the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. She is also a professor of pediatrics and clinical and translational science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is board-certified in pediatric hematology/oncology. Ramasubramanian (“Ram”) Kalpatthi, MD, is Clinical Research Director of Pediatric Sickle Cell Research and Director of PHO Medical Student and Resident Education at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is also a Visiting Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology. He earned his medical degree from Thanjavur Medical College in Thanjavur, India. He completed a Residency at All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Lincoln Medical Center followed by a fellowship at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Dr. Kalpatthi is nationally recognized for his excellence in the clinical care, clinical research, program development and leadership in the field of pediatric hematology oncology with special emphasis on sickle cell disease (SCD) and immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). His other clinical interests include therapeutic apheresis, immune hematological disorders, neonatal hematology, benign hematological disorders, and childhood leukemia. Also, he is a favorite among medical students, residents, and fellows due to his passion for teaching, guiding, and mentoring future generation of physicians. He has mentored medical students, residents, and fellows in completing clinical research projects that have been published and/or presented at national conferences such as the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO) and Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) meeting.
