About Dr. Cathleen N. Bairey-Merz

Dr. C. Noel Bairey Merz is Director of the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute. She is also Director of the Cedars-Sinai Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiac Center, Director of the Cedars-Sinai Clinical Scholars Program, Director of the Linda Joy Pollin Women’s Heart Health Program at Cedars-Sinai, and professor of medicine at Cedars-Sinai and UCLA. Her research focuses on heart disease in women, preventive cardiology, coronary physiology/pathophysiology, and advanced cardiac imaging, as well as alternative and complementary medicine approaches to heart disease. She has a broad background in cardiovascular prevention, with specific training and expertise in key research areas. As a professor of medicine at Cedars-Sinai and UCLA, she has carried out preventive, advanced imaging, and surrogate outcome clinical trial protocols. As Principal Investigator (PI) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-sponsored Women’s Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation—WISE—, she has a translational approach to the use of advanced cardiovascular imaging for the study of cardiovascular disease. She has also been a featured TED speaker.

Her clinical research consists of co-authoring 248 peer reviewed articles in the past 15 years. In particular, she has co-authored 54 articles in the study of Angina.
