Dr. Sarcon completed her bachelor’s degree at UCLA, followed by two master’s degrees in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Physiology/Biophysics at Georgetown University. She has been awarded multiple fellowships at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from 2005-2008. She earned her Medical Degree from UC Davis in 2013. Dr. Sarcon was a Fulbright Scholar in Spain and Switzerland, where she studied the role of stem cells in myocardial regeneration, and heart conditions that disproportionately affect women. Her research in Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy or “Broken Heart Syndrome” has generated more than 30 publications, including a landmark paper in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2015. Dr. Sarcon completed her Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at USC in 2019, then completed her Electrophysiology Fellowship at UCSF in 2021. Dr. Sarcon has published numerous peer-reviewed studies focused on cardiovascular disease and arrythmias. She is also active in cardiology-centered professional societies, including the American College of Cardiology (where she serves on the leadership committee) and the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Sarcon has maintained her academic affiliations, as a junior faculty member at UC Riverside (where she was awarded ‘Faculty of the Year’ in 2023), as well as a volunteer faculty member at the University of California Irvine. She also serves in the “EP Save a Life Foundation”, offering free cardiac screening to teens to prevent sudden cardiac arrest. Dr. Sarcon is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Electrophysiology. She specializes in current, state of the art pacemaker and defibrillator implantations, including leadless pacemakers and conduction system pacing, as well as the left atrial appendage closure device (Watchman device) for patients unable to tolerate blood thinners. She also performs ablations to treat conditions such as atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardias, premature ventricular contractions, and ventricular tachycardias. Dr. Sarcon is experienced in echocardiography, electrocardiography interpretation, and stress tests. Her interests include genetic arrythmias such as Brugada Syndrome, women’s cardiovascular diseases, and healthcare disparities.
