
Overview
Dr. Gary Giangola is the chairman of the Department of Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. He also serves as the vice president of surgical services for Northwell Health s western region, which includes Lenox Hill Hospital, Lenox Health Greenwich Village, Staten Island University Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital and Phelps Hospital in Westchester.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Giangola has dedicated his life to caring for people of the five boroughs and the surrounding metropolitan area. His passion for surgery was ignited at a young age when he read The Making of a Surgeon by William A. Nolen, MD. From that day forward, Dr. Giangola knew his calling was to be a surgeon and to train at Bellevue Hospital, just as the author had. He not only achieved that dream but remained as part of the surgical faculty at Bellevue, the Manhattan VA Medical Center and NYU, for 12 years. Dr. Giangola is a graduate of NYU School of Medicine, where he received his residency and fellowship training. He also earned his bachelor s degree at NYU, graduating cum laude.
Dr. Giangola joined Northwell Health in 2008 as chief of vascular surgery and vice chairman of the Department of Surgery at Staten Island University Hospital. He would soon assume the role of Northwell Health s system chief of vascular surgery, and was eventually appointed chairman of surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in 2013.
