
Overview
Dr. Scott W. Ard received his medical degree at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his internship and residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Ard earned his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana where he also served as chief fellow. He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Ard has twelve years of experience in invasive cardiology, performing diagnostic left and right heart catheterization, permanent pacemaker implantations, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms, and nuclear cardiovascular studies. He was also an Associate Professor of Medicine at Campbell University School of Medicine. Dr. Ard spent time as a Battalion Surgeon under the US Army Special Forces command, serving both at home and overseas.
Dr. Ard completed extensive research on the CLOSURE 1 Trial: “a prospective, multicenter, randomized, controlled trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the STARFlex septal closure system” and The PROTECT AF (Watchman Left Atrial Appendage System for Embolic Protection in patients with Atrial Fibrillation) trial, among others.
