He is also the Steering Committee Co-Chair of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Cardiothoracic Surgery Network, which has completed 3 groundbreaking, randomized controlled trials in cardiac surgery. O’Gara serves as Associate Editor for JAMA Cardiology and is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Circulation. He has lectured widely and authored or co-authored over 250 original manuscripts, chapters, critical reviews, statements and editorials.
