I am proud to serve as the Chief of the Duke Division of Gastroenterology. In addition to my administrative duties, I enjoy my clinical practice focused on the care of patients with liver diseases. I also continue to participate in clinical research and hope that these studies offer our patients the latest advances and treatment options. Much of my work is with patients who have had liver disease for a long period of time. A number of liver transplant patients are women of childbearing age, and I have a passion for trying to help them understand what it would mean to become pregnant and pursue motherhood with that kind of medical history. I have a passion for taking care of patients with liver disease. Being a hepatologist allows me to form long term relationships and work together with patients and families to make a diagnosis and a treatment plan. I am particularly interested in liver transplantation as well as the care of patients with autoimmune and cholestatic liver disease including primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. In addition to patient care, I have an interest in medical education. Because new treatments and discoveries are constantly being made within the field of hepatology, I am continually learning and enjoy sharing this knowledge with patients, families, and medical trainees.
