Dr. Bindu H. Akkanti

Dr. Bindu Akkanti earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston and her residency training at Boston University Medical Center in Massachusetts. She then returned to BCM to complete her fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine and served as Chief Fellow. Following her fellowship, she pursued bioinformatics- based translational research in lung cancer in the BCM department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care, Dr. Akkanti has clinical interests that include the diagnosis and management of critically ill adult patients, critical care, lung cancer, asthma, COPD, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, lung transplantation, and other advanced lung diseases. Her research interests include determining gene expression signatures in critically ill patients and in patients with advanced lung diseases utilizing bioinformatics resources. Dr. Akkanti currently serves as an assistant professor of Critical Care at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School. She is an active member in the Larry D. Johnson Heart & Vascular Institute at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and works with a large multidisciplinary team caring for adult heart failure patients fitted with mechanical devices.
