
Overview
Dr. Jeffrey Brinker directs the cardiac pacemaker service and is an expert in interventional cardiology including pacemakers and implantable cardio defibrillators (ICDs), angioplasty, heart catheterization and lead extraction. Dr. Brinker received his undergraduate degree from Hofstra University and his medical degree AOA summa cum laude from the State University of New York’s Downstate Medical Center. He interned at Johns Hopkins Hospital and entered the residency program at Kings County Hospital, interrupting his residency for military service. After completing his residency at Kings County, he pursued a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Louisville, Kentucky and in cardiovascular disease at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Brinker joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1978. He directed the Catheterization Laboratory until 1990 and the Interventional Cardiology program until 1999. Dr. Brinker has published over 250 journal articles and book chapters on topics of interventional cardiology. His research interests include cardiovascular imaging, cardiac pacemakers and lead extraction. He has served on the editorial boards of several medical journals and is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including seven military awards and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Brinker is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and serves on national health care committees and task forces.

She is a co-investigator in several NIH-funded studies including the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis and Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities cohorts. She has served as the Training Director for four AHA Strategic Focused Research Networks. She has mentored over 60 individuals and the recipient of 2 mentoring awards. Additionally, she was the recipient of the Nanette Wegner Award for Women’s Health Medical Leadership by the Women Heart Organization and the Donna Vogel Women’s Health Champion Award by Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Michos completed medical school at Northwestern University, Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and a Masters of Health Science degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
