Overview
Dr. Michael Salerno is a cardiologist who cares for hospitalized patients with heart disease. He specializes in heart imaging, including echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart), cardiovascular MRI and CT, and nuclear cardiology (procedures to assess heart function using small amounts of radioactive materials that appear on the images). In his research, Salerno's goal is to develop imaging techniques that improve heart disease diagnosis and treatment. His work has included designing new MRI techniques to quantify heart blood flow, myocardial fibrosis (scarring of the heart muscle) and heart function.
