
Overview
Dr. Timothy Gong is the Section Physician Leader for the Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support, and Transplant Cardiology Program at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and an Assistant Professor with Texas A&M University College of Medicine. He received a Bachelor of Science from the University of California Berkeley and a medical degree from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of California Irvine, cardiovascular disease fellowship at Saint Louis University, and mechanical circulatory support and transplant fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center. He has remained in Dallas as faculty since 2017 before being appointed Section Physician Leader effective on January 1, 2021. In this role, he represents the transplant group in issues involving advocacy, policy development, contract negotiations, and program oversight. In February 2022, he was appointed to a three-year term as the Region 4 Representative of the OPTN Heart Transplantation Committee. Dr. Gong has served with OPTN/UNOS since 2017 as a member of the Region 4 Review Board and remains most interested in policy focused on primary graft dysfunction and multi-organ transplantation. His ultimate desire is to bring bedside, local, regional, and national level experience to help develop and shape evidence-based policies. He was the recipient of the 2021 American Society of Transplantation Research Network Grant for investigation into the variability of donor-derived cell-free DNA after heart transplantation and the relationship with cardiac allograft vasculopathy. He recently completed an update for the American College of Cardiology Heart Failure Self-Assessment Program entitled “Multi-Organ Transplantation Considerations” to be used for National Board Exam review. Recently, he has contributed peer-reviewed publications to journals including Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Interventions, Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, and the European Society of Cardiology: Heart Failure. In October 2021, he was named to the Advisory Panel on Clinical Effectiveness for the non-profit organization, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), authorized through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and funded by appropriations from the Treasury General Fund and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Trust Fund.
