He received the University of Chicago Surgical Society Travel Award, participating in surgeries in Santiago, Chile and the Academic Achievement Award for the highest in-service examination score among graduating chief residents. Dr. Shao also received the AOA teaching award given by graduating fourth-year medical students. He has extensive research experience in both academia and industry.
