Dr. Regina L. Jablonski

Michael J. Schwartz, MD, is Chief of Urology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Director of Urology Services for Northwell Health's Central Region. Dr. Schwartz specializes in minimally invasive procedures to treat prostate cancer. He has vast experience in robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, evolving surgical techniques over time to minimize treatment-related side effects. For qualifying prostate cancer patients, Dr. Schwartz also offers focal ablation therapies, using sophisticated image guidance and focal tissue ablation to eradicate prostate cancer with few side effects. He has additional expertise in urologic oncology and surgery to treat kidney, bladder, adrenal and testicular cancers. Becoming a doctor always felt natural to me, Dr. Schwartz says. Dr. Schwartz earned his medical degree from Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and pursued his residency training in urology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell. His research focuses on both diagnostics and treatment of prostate cancer, and he is involved with several clinical trials for focal therapy. He is a member of the American Urological Association and Society of Urologic Oncology. He is Associate Professor of Urology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He oversees a laboratory investigating novel approaches to negating the Androgen Receptor, an important key driver of castration resistant prostate cancer. Decision making and improved methods of clinical care for patients with bladder and prostate cancer are important aspects of his research interests in collaboration with Dr. Michael Diefenbach, a behavioral scientist in the Departments of Urology & Medicine at NS-LIJ. He has authored or co-authored nearly 70 peer reviewed articles in Journals such as Journal of Urology, Urology, British Journal of Urology, Clinical Cancer Research and Science. Dr. Hall received his MD from the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University. He then completed two years of Surgery training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center followed by a four year residency in Urology at Boston University School of Medicine. This was followed by a 2 year fellowship in Urologic Oncology in the Scott Department of Urology at Baylor College of Medicine. Prior to joining the Smith Institute for Urology, he served on the faculty of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai for 18 years, holding various positions including Kyung Hyun Kim MD Chair of Urology and the Director of the Deane Prostate Health & Research Center. Before joining Northwell in 2005 as chair of urology, Dr. Kavoussi completed his medical degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He obtained his urologic training at Washington University of St. Louis and, directly following residency, was named chief of urology at the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis. In 1991, he was appointed assistant professor at Harvard School of Medicine and director of endourology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. In 1993, he joined the faculty of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he was vice chairman of urology and named a Patrick C. Walsh Distinguished Professor.
