Overview
Dr. Sekar earned his medical degree from Madras Medical College in India in 1982. Prior to his arrival in the United States, Dr. Sekar was trained in England, where he first studied cardiology. There he worked as a Registrar of Cardiology in Sunderland City Hospital, then as Registrar of Transplant Cardiology in Harefield Hospital. Once in the United States, Dr. Sekar completed a residency in internal medicine at State University of New York at Buffalo and a cardiology fellowship at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. He also has over fourteen years of teaching experience in hospitals. Dr. Sekar is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is certified in pacemaker and defibrillator implantation through the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Sekar is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

His clinical and research interests are in the field of hypertension, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and cardiovascular magnetic resonance perfusion imaging.In his spare time, Dr. Kuruvilla enjoys spending time with his family, reading books, watching documentaries and playing tennis.
