Dr. Joanna M. Joly

Dr. Joanna Joly is a specialty care physician board-certified in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, and internal medicine. She joined Inova in 2025 and has been practicing since 2011. She has a special interest in pregnant individuals with high risk cardiovascular disease, and enjoys collaborating with obstetricians to provide exceptional peripartum care for this vulnerable population. Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Joly was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she was Associate Program Director of both the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship Program as well as the Heart Failure, Pulmonary Hypertension, & ICU Cardiology Fellowship Program. She completed an Advanced Heart Disease and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, and a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at UAB. Before that, she completed medical school and residency at Georgetown; her patient care philosophy of cura personalis, or care of the whole person, comes from the foundational training she received there. She is originally from the Washington, DC area and is thrilled to be home.
