Dr. Som N. Chalise

Dr. Chalise is a fellowship-trained, board-certified pulmonologist and critical care medicine specialist who treats patients in Newport News. Dr. Chalise’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary conditions like sarcoidosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma, as well as critical illnesses such as sepsis and respiratory failure. In all cases, his goal is to educate patients about their disease processes and treatment options to help them make the best choice. Dr. Chalise earned his medical degree from the Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Nepal in 2004. He completed an internal medicine residency at Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, followed by a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at East Carolina University. Dr. Chalise is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. Enjoying the art and science of medicine, Dr. Chalise is passionate about diagnosing and treating lung diseases. He finds it incredibly rewarding when he is able to help his patients breathe better. Originally from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, Dr. Chalise enjoys the weather, parks and water found in Hampton Roads. He and his wife have two children. Dr. Chalise enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and learning about new cultures.
