Dr. Mohamed Othman is the William T. Butler Endowed Chair for Distinguished Faculty and Professor of Medicine, Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology at Baylor College of Medicine. He is also Service Line Chief, Gastroenterology Section at Baylor St Luke's Medical Center; and Member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine.Dr. Othman’s clinical interests include: endoscopic submucosal dissection, endoscopic mucosal resection, barrett's esophagus surveillance and ablation, chronic and acute pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, pancreatic cancer screening for high-risk patients, endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP and cholangioscopy with laser; colorectal cancer screening & colonoscopy; per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM); gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy for gastroparesis; and full thickness endoscopic resection.His professional skills cover tissue resection techniques such as ESD and EMR; management of chronic pancreatitis; endoscopic necrosectomy; EUS-assisted ERCP; per oral endoscopic myotomy; management of pancreatic cysts; and management of Barrett's Esophagus.Dr. Othman received his medical degree from the University of Mansoura School of Medicine in Mansoura, Egypt. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, where he was also a Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellow. He also completed a Fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy at the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida.Dr. Othman holds certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and American College of Physicians.Among his numerous awards, Dr. Othman received the 2014 Diversity Award from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Nirav Thosani earned his medical degree from N.H.L. Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad, India. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston, followed by an advanced fellowship in therapeutic endoscopy at Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Thosani’s clinical interests include pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, pancreatic cancer, gallstones, bile duct diseases, colon polyps, colon cancer, EUS (endoscopic ultrasound), ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), colonoscopy, swallowing disorder, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, endoscopic ablation therapy, and endoscopic anti-reflux therapy. He has pioneered EUS guided radiofrequency ablation procedure to treat pancreatic cancer and has been the recipient of R01 grant from the National Institute of Health. Dr. Thosani has published over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Currently, he is Chair of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Standards of Practice Committee and has been involved in drafting multiple guidelines in field of gastrointestinal endoscopy. Dr. Thosani has been voted as Top Doctors in Houston by Houstonia Magazine as well as Top Doctors in Texas, by the Texas Monthly Magazine. Dr. Thosani’s practice philosophy centers on providing personalized care tailored to each patient’s specific clinical problem. He takes time to explain the details of a procedure, allowing each patient to make an informed decision about care and to know what to expect.
