Dr. Gregory A. Maggass

Dr. Gregory Maggass is a radiation oncologist who came to the Valley in 1987 to join Radiation Oncologists of Central Arizona and served as the Medical Director of the Arizona Oncology Services, East Valley Center, since 1989. He also directed the prostate brachytherapy program at Banner Desert Medical Center since its inception. He joined Arizona Radiation Oncology Specialists in October of 2009.Dr. Maggass earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin after completing an undergraduate degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado. He completed his residency at the University of Southern California Medical Center, where he received specialized training in brachytherapy. He has a particular interest in the treatment of prostate cancer with both brachytherapy (permanent seed implantation and high dose rate) and IMRT/IGRT radiation therapy. He has extensive experience in prostate brachytherapy using radioactive seeds, including Theraseed (Pd-103), Oncoseed (I-125), and Proxcelan (C-131). He is a leader in bringing this therapy to patients in Arizona.Dr. Maggass has extensive experience in endobronchial and vaginal brachytherapy treatment. He provides treatment for a variety of other cancers including lung, gynecologic, and gastrointestinal and skin malignancies using the latest radiation therapy techniques. In addition, he utilizes Zevalin and Bexxar radioimmunotherapy for patients with low grade lymphomas. Dr. Maggass has extensive experience in treating thyroid cancer with radioactive indoine (I-131) and bone metastases with radioisotope therapy (quadramet and metastron).Dr. Maggass is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology and a Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology. He has participated in clinical trials since moving to Arizona. He has also been named a Top Doc in Phoenix Magazine and received the national Best Doctor's ranking.
